How much does a tattoo cost/ how much should i budget?

I know it's hard for clients to guess how much something will cost! Our shop is $225/hour, and many tattoos you see in our portfolios are 4-7 hours of work (or more!). Below, I've attached some tattoos I've done with the rough number of hours something of this size could take (give or take, everything is situational and dependent on content).

SOME TATTOOS AND HOW LONG THEY TOOK:

  • 4-5 sessions ranging between 2 and 4 hours.

  • 3 sessions between 4-6 hours

    This was done on a dedicated out of town client in 3 different sessions of between 4 and 6 hours. If you're looking to travel, be aware that larger work may require multiple trips!

  • 2 sessions of 3 hours

    A full color shouldercap like this takes either one marathon session of 6-7 hours or two sessions around 3 hours apiece.

  • 3 sessions of 2-5 hours

  • 1 session of 2 hours

  • 1 session of roughly 3 hours

A FEW TIPS FOR SUBMISSION FORMS:

  • COVERUPS

    If you are submitting for a coverup, please upload an image of the tattoo you'd like covered to some linkable place (flickr, pinterest, imgur, etc) and link to that photo in the description area of your submission form. I will never be able to commit to a coverup without first seeing what needs covering! I absolutely must see this before having any idea whether I'm able to cover your extant tattoo in the first place.

  • USING A SPECIFIC IMAGE AS REFERENCE

    If you're looking to get a tattoo based on another illustration or image, please do the same thing I suggested above! Upload the image to some image-sharing site and link to it in your submission.

  • REPRODUCING ART BY ANOTHER ARTIST

    I draw all the work you see here. I am happy to work with an image as reference, but I am unable to reproduce a specific image exactly as a tattoo. The rules of tattooing are different from the (nearly nonexistent) rules of fine art.

  • USING BLACK

    I am unable to do any tattoos without black outlines and black shading. Every tattoo you see in my portfolio has both! I cannot do a tattoo with a brown or grey or nonexistent outline; every element in every tattoo I do has both.
